What Happened To The Boring Book?

A devotional thought from 2 Corinthians 5:14

2 Corinthians 5:14 For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead:

A friend gave a young single woman a book with high recommendations. She attempted to read it but found it far too dull and dry, so after a few chapters drudging through, she placed it on her bookshelf to gather dust. A few days later, she was invited to a party where she met the most charming young man. She thought him handsome, intelligent, funny, and kind. Though a crowd surrounded them, neither noticed another soul; they were so captivated by each other’s company.

“So, what do you do for a living?” she asked.

“I am an author,” he replied. “What are some of your books? Perhaps I have read one of them?” She inquired.

Can you guess the next part of the story?

Yep, He had authored that boring book she had just forsaken!

She returned home that night determined to give his book another chance.

She hung on every word and couldn’t put it down.

All night she read it, completing it by morning.

It became her favorite book.

What had happened to the boring book?

The answer is easy; she had fallen in love with the author.

The Apostle Paul tells us the reason for his labor in Christian missions. He tells us why he traveled and preached despite the peril. The Apostle didn’t serve to be saved or to earn the rewards that are promised to the faithful. He did it because of love.

2 Corinthians 5:14 For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead:

Paul’s heart had been captivated by Christ, so he was “constrained” to labor because of love.

Dear reader, you can do it out of duty, but everything you do will a source of difficulty and drudgery.

There is a better motive, labor out of love, and notice the difference!

Meet Jesus, know him better, love him more, and delight in doing your duty again.
