The Reason For The Rest

Psalm 25:12–14

12 What man is he that feareth the Lord?

Him shall he teach in the way that he shall choose.

13 His soul shall dwell at ease;

And his seed shall inherit the earth.

14 The secret of the Lord is with them that fear him;

And he will shew them his covenant.

“Daddy, I can’t sleep”, she said.

“Why can’t you sleep, Baby girl?”, was the Father’s reply.

“I scared” was the reason given for her restlessness.

She crawled into the bed beside him, burrowed beneath the covers and within a few minutes she was out. Why was she suddenly able to sleep?

Was the different mattress more comfortable? Did the covers have more weight?

Na, her ability to rest had nothing to do with the change of place but the presence of a person; she knew him, trusted him and had confidence in his care.

Today’s psalm speaks of the individual who fears the Lord.

Psalm 25:13 “His soul shall dwell at ease…”

The Hebrew word translated “dwell” is usually rendered, “lodge” and sometimes “tarried all night” in the KJV.

Let me say it this way, the person that fears the Lord will climb by faith into his presence and sleep in confidence of his care.

And what is the reason for this rest?

They know him!

Psalm 25:14 The secret of the Lord is with them that fear him; And he will shew them his covenant.

When you trust and obey our Father you grow in knowledge of him. For those privileged children he whispers into their heart sweet secrets of spiritual comfort and their soul dwells at ease.

Does this truth bless your heart today like it does mine?
