Daily Devotional Reading from the Psalms
Psalm 33:1–6
1Rejoice in the Lord, O ye righteous: For praise is comely for the upright. 2Praise the Lordwith harp: Sing unto him with the psaltery and an instrument of ten strings. 3Sing unto him a new song; Play skillfully with a loud noise. 4For the word of the Lordis right; And all his works are done in truth. 5He loveth righteousness and judgment: The earth is full of the goodness of the Lord. 6By the word of the Lordwere the heavens made; And all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.
Praise is pretty. Praise looks good on you and me. The Bible says, “praise is comely”. That word “comely” has a lot of meaning. It means beautiful, delightful, suitable or appropriate. I believe all of these apply. You look good to God with your praise on and it is appropriate to do it too. Our creator that gave us life and a place to live it, he deserves our worship. The Savior that left Heaven in order to make our citizenship there a possibility, earned every song, every testimony, every sermon, every lifting of our hands and bowing of our heads that we can offer. If we play an instrument, then we should play it skillfully and loud to his glory. Skillfully means more than just God given talent. Skills are honed through hours of practice. He deserves practice, preparation and passion in all we do. His Holy Word made the worlds. That is power! Including those life-giving words in our praise will make it powerful and give it life. Perhaps like me, you can’t play an instrument. That’s ok, look for the abilities he has given and sharpen that skill, then use it for him. Praise is pretty, so by all means praise him!
