I want a shiny face!

Devotional reading from Psalms 34:5-11

5 They looked unto him, and were lightened:

And their faces were not ashamed.

6 This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him,

And saved him out of all his troubles.

7 The angel of the Lord encampeth

Round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.

8 O taste and see that the Lord is good:

Blessed is the man that trusteth in him.

9 O fear the Lord, ye his saints:

For there is no want to them that fear him.

10 The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger:

But they that seek the Lord shall not want any good thing.

11 Come, ye children, hearken unto me:

I will teach you the fear of the Lord.

Psalm 34:5–11

As a boy I remember asking an older lady why she powdered her face. Her reply, “I don’t want a shiny face.” I do!

I want my face to shine.

I even polish the top my skull so that it gives a shiny glow like a halo, but that ain’t exactly what I mean when I say I want a shiny face.

Have you ever noticed that special something on the face of some believers? I’m speaking of that glow that God gives a very few that have spent a lot of time with him. I have seen it. I have been pulled in to the contagious presence of those special believers. I am drawn their direction because I want what they have.

I want their joy.

I want their peace.

I want that reflective evidence of God in my life.

Moses had it when he saw the glory of God on the mount.

The psalmist recognized it on some in his day.

They looked unto him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed. Psalm 34:5

That shine is just an external thing but an even greater thing is happening beneath the surface. Those who truly trust the Lord and spend time with their Savior understand what God has done for them and are grateful.

This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him,
And saved him out of all his troubles. Psalm 34:6

They trust God to take care of them.

The angel of the Lord encampeth
Round about them that fear him, and delivereth them. Psalm 34:7

They are able to find contentment which eludes so many because of their trust.

The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger:
But they that seek the Lord shall not want any good thing. Psalm 34:10

I don’t know that I have the glow. I want it!

I have like the Psalmist tasted and discovered that the Lord is Good and invite you to do the same.

O taste and see that the Lord is good:
Blessed is the man that trusteth in him. Psalm 34:8
