A New Reason To Love The Beach

A devotional thought from Psalm 139:17–18

Psalm 139:17–18 How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God!

How great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: When I awake, I am still with thee.

Everyone who knows me well understands my obsession with the beach. Why?

Well, I freely admit that I am not the Christian man of my aspirations, I often lack faith and am very prone to worry. I am better however at the beach.

I can watch the waves and listen to their crashing and hear my Lord say, “Peace be still”. There is something about the vastness of the ocean that makes me understand a little of the scope of my creator’s wisdom and power. The ocean breeze blows through my hair, well…it blows upon my skin and soothes my mind.

I become someone better when I am there, a man who is at peace and trusts God.

In past visits to the beach, my focus was on the water, but today I have found a blessing in something else, the sand. Yes, the sand!

I know what you are thinking, “I hate the sand!”

I get ya, I do! Sand gets in places that you don’t want it sometimes, doesn't it? The sun heats it up and it burns your feet. It makes that PB&J that you brought for a snack taste gritty.

So, why should I appreciate the sand at the beach?

Well, It is a wonderful thought to know that someone you care about has you in their thoughts, isn’t it? I am so incredibly thankful for the great friends that have reached out to me just to say I was on their minds. To think that these busy people, with all of their own concerns and cares, have thoughts of me is both humbling and comforting. I have tried to learn from them and reach out to others in ways that I had not.

I will, with God’s help, remember others more. As comforting as it is to know that people care, there is an even greater blessing in the two verses we referenced.

The Bible tells me that the God of Creation has thoughts of me! The maker of Heaven and Earth has me on his mind!

The Word of God teaches that God’s thoughts toward his people are precious and plentiful.

How plentiful are his thoughts toward us?

The psalmist said,

“...If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand”. Psalm 139:18

Try counting the sand on the seashore, that would be very frustrating and time-consuming, wouldn’t it?

Just know, that number would be nothing in comparison to the number of precious thoughts God has for you!

Now that I am reminded of what God said in this passage, my beach trips will be better.

I will see him in the water, hear him in the waves, feel him in the wind, and comprehend a little more of his love for me because of the sand!

Ya'll ready for a beach trip too?
